Sometimes as Christians you can hit a place where you just feel burnt out. Your gas tank is empty and there’s nothing left to give. Even just as humans we experience this, especially if you are a parent. We may not even realize we’ve entered autopilot and God’s love in us dwindles. It’s still there, but its not burning as bright as it was when we were first redeemed and became a Christian.
When you lay your sins down at the feet of our Father and receive forgiveness and a fresh start, you are so full of love and joy that you can’t help but show it and share it with those around you. You feel like you’re walking on air and nothing can go wrong again. It’s pure bliss.
Then the enemy comes around like a prowling lion and throws attacks into your life. You start to feel the weight of everything and either get discouraged or distracted. Now, you’ve fallen for the trap and allowed your light to dim. You were caught off guard and you are not exactly “feeling it” any more. What happened to you? Why aren’t you as amped up about God like you used to be? Where did the excitement and love go? The flame of that love in your heart is still there, but it’s grown weaker. You just need to reignite the flame. Blow a little oxygen its way and watch it grow until its fully ablaze.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV —“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
God did not give us the spirit of fear. The enemy tricks us into fear, but we were not made to live in fear. If you truly believe that God has your back, then why fear anything. The Creator and Ruler of the universe is on your side.
The scripture tells us that God did give us the spirit of love. Like I said earlier, when you have entered salvation through God’s grace you can’t help but be filled with joy and love. You want to celebrate. You want to share it with everyone around you. It’s the most amazing feeling.
John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
The enemy (“the thief”) comes “to steal” your agape love and “to destroy” the love and joy God has grown in your heart. His one mission is to separate God from man. So, he throws attacks and distractions into your life to shift your mind from a positive and sunny outlook to a negative and downtrodden outlook. If you think about it, it just takes one little shift and then life looks completely different to you. Your attitude will change and the light of love fades. Instead, you are walking around in worry, fear, stress, anger, resentment, disappointment, depression, etc… You don’t really spread the overflowing agape love that God has placed in your heart. You only spread negativity (whether we realize it or want to admit it or not).
So, how do you fix this? How do you reignite the fire in your soul and reawaken God’s love in you? Find joy in the seemingly “unimportant” things in life, things you would normally take for granted or overlook. Find the positive in every circumstance and say it out loud. Don’t just dwell on the bad, but find the good and acknowledge it. Think about how bad it could have been. The main thing is to thank God for every blessing you can think of every single day and all through the day, not just before bed. Sing praise songs that make you feel joyful and excited through the day. Stay away from people or situations that force you to dwell on negativity. Focus on all of the good things, even if they are few and far between, in your life and don’t hone in on the bad. If you continue to be thankful and praise God for all of the blessings (even if they are small) no matter what the enemy throws at you, then eventually he will see that you aren’t going to back down. It’s not worth his time and effort to keep focusing on you when you refuse to fall for the trap and just use the tough times to bond with God. That’s the opposite of what the devil wants.
Right now, find the positive things in your life. Write them down and say them out loud 3 times a day, every day. It doesn’t matter if they seem silly or small or if you only have one thing. Just do it. You woke up today. You can see and read. There’s two right there.
