Galatians 5:22-23 Young’s Literal Translation (YLT)

“22And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, temperance: against such there is no law; and those who are Christ’s, the flesh did crucify with the affections, and the desires; 25 if we may live in the Spirit, in the Spirit also we may walk; 26 let us not become vain-glorious — one another provoking, one another envying!”

Proverbs 17:22King James Version (KJV)

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

The next fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galations 5:22-23 is joy. This is another one of my favorites because what feels better than pure joy? I love those videos on Youtube where the baby is laughing hysterically and can’t stop. That makes me lose it! When do you feel pure joy?

The Greek word for joy is  chara. Joy is a result of hosting the Holy Spirit within us. God’s presence in our lives produces pure joy. The lack of God’s presence is when we feel distraught and stressed. It’s when we aren’t obeying Him and we feel His presence begin to withdraw from us that we begin to feel the negativity creeping in.

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines joy as gladness or cheerfulness. I tend to think of the feelings of pure bliss or excitement when I hear the word joy. I hope you have all experienced joy in your lives.

Some people just love misery and drama. Do you know people like this? I think we all do. Those people thrive on negativity. God may be working in their lives, but they do not always choose to embrace the gift of joy that God gives us. Instead, they are too distracted by all of the things going “wrong” in their lives to notice the goodness and blessings, whether large or small. Maybe you’re one of those people. Are you? Be honest with yourself.

Choose joy.

Choose to accept the gift that your Father is trying to give you and look at all of the blessings in your life right now.

We as God’s children have many things to be joyful about. Our salvation is top of the list. You can be set free from your past and made new just by repenting and believing. Does that not rock your world?
