You might have seen this on my Pinterest account if you follow it. I strongly believe that as Christians and believers in the Word that we should be doing everything we can to care for the bodies that God gave us.
That’s why I studied fitness and nutrition in college. I want to know how to best take care of this body that is not my own, but on loan to me from God during my time on this earth. I believe each of us should develop our own eating style and routine that is unique to our lives, but also helps our bodies thrive and does not bring harm. How can you do this when there is so much mixed up information out there on the internet?
So many people claim to be experts and authorities in the health industry, but are they really? What is their major motivation and message? Is it all about aesthetics? Is it truly about what’s beneficial for YOUR body? I’m going on a journey to dig through the junk and the facts and deliver to you what I personally think helps me. This may not be for everyone. It’s just MY life and MY experience that I’m sharing here on the blog.
What does the bible say about our health?
3 John 1:2 “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
Our Creator wants our bodies and souls to be in good health. He gives us everything we need in His Word. Bible Study is an important part of our lives. It not only guides us on decisions and life in general, but also our health and wellness. Look at Luke 4:4. This tells us that we do not live on bread (food) alone, but also on the Word of God. We should be applying the instructions God gives to ALL areas of our lives, even health/fitness. This next verse just reinforces this idea.
Proverbs 3:5-8 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. 7Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. 8This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Why Does God Care About My Health?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Mankind sold out when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden. They handed their dominion over the Earth to Satan. Luckily, when Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross he also paid the price to take that dominion back. Because he did this, our bodies are no longer our own. They are property of God on loan to us during our time on earth. Our bodies are His temple, so that He can be with each of us who allow Him in.
When Jesus died on the cross, the veil was torn and God’s presence was released from the Temple. Now, he lives in each of us; therefore, our bodies are His temples. Look into the scriptures at the great care and many lengths they went through to treat the temple with the utmost respect and honor. Any time someone dishonored the temple or the ark of the covenant they were punished by death.
Should we not treat our bodies the same? Look at your life right now and be brutally honest with yourself. After all, we can hide nothing from God. So, why not just go ahead and be real. Do your eating habits, food choices, exercises, and lifestyle overall reflect honor on God’s temple? Are you putting things into your body that are harmful? Are you leading a sedentary lifestyle? Are you brutally punishing your body in rough workouts that overtax the body? If so, think about ways you can change this and bring honor to God through how you treat your body.
