Writer’s Guilt…Taking time to write…

If you’re a writer or blogger with a family then maybe you can relate. I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this. We writers get joy from expressing our creative thoughts through our writing.

However, some of us have kids, spouses, day jobs, and other responsibilities tugging on us all through the day. When we finally set aside some time to work on our writing projects, we can feel a tinge of guilt. Probably because we see it as being “selfish” as if we are neglecting the others around us who’d love our undivided attention.

Do you ever feel like that?

Maybe your hobby is something else. Painting. Photography. Exercising. Hiking. Do you feel bad sometimes when you try focusing on your hobby by taking time away from something else to work on your passion?

I definitely feel this from time to time. My family is super supportive and never makes me feel guilty. But I can’t help sometimes but feel like I should be giving 24/7 undivided attention to their needs and not worry about my books and words.

Luckily, as I mentioned I have the best husband and child in the world! Even though he doesn’t like reading or creative writing himself, my husband understands the basic need for a creative outlet to keep a person sane. That and coffee. LOL
