You Are Beautiful – His Encouragement #14

My Post (56)

1 Peter 3:3-4

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in the standards of beauty given by the world. We sometimes can’t help but constantly compare ourselves to Instagram and social media pics that are enhanced with filters. We find ourselves losing sight of what is truly beautiful.

Do you do this?

I, myself, get caught in the trap of comparison and its verses like these that bring me back to reality. It’s important to remember that your true beauty comes from your heart not your clothing, hair, or jewelry.

Song of Solomon 4:7 ESV

“You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.”

This is the verse that is encouraging me this week.

  1. It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparing myself to what I see on social media. I truly don’t match society’s standards for beauty. It took a long time to overcome, but I can say at 37 I’m finally comfortable in my own skin. It took a lot of Bible reading to get there though. When I realized how God sees me, it changed everything for the better!

    1. Amen to that! The standards of society are always changing. Look at what was beautiful in the 50’s, 80’s, 90’s, and even now. Completely different. God is constant and that’s got to be our focus. It can be tough when we’re bombarded with all that mess everywhere we turn. You are a beautiful daughter of the one true King!

  2. Me, too. Not necessarily the comparison trap with social media or media in general, but comparing my current body with my pre-kids body. I had two babies in just two years and I’m just not used to looking in the mirror and seeing what I see now.

  3. I think to be a woman today is to struggle with this. I was actually having this conversation with some of the young girls (grades 7&8) in my small group at youth group last night. Satan starts to attack young and continue for the rest of our lives. That’s why we need to fight his lies with what God really says about us. Great reminder for today!
